Statement by Ambassador Tacan İldem, Permanent Representative of Turkey, in Response to the Report by the Co-Chairs of the Minsk Group and the Personal Representative of the Chairman in Office on the Conflict Dealt With by the OSCE Minsk Conference at the 971st Permanent Council
I would like to join the previous speakers in welcoming the Co-Chairs of the Minsk Group and the Personal Representative of the CIO on the Conflict dealt with by the OSCE Minsk Conference to the Permanent Council and in thanking them for their presentations. Since it is his first appearance among us, we would like to particularly welcome Ambassador Warlick from the United States and wish him much success in his new important mission.
As a member of the Minsk Group, we remain committed to supporting all efforts to find a just, viable and lasting solution to the conflict through peaceful means. We continue to strongly believe that the status-quo is unacceptable.
Turkey wishes to see the process of the Minsk Group bear fruit to the benefit of all stakeholders. We believe that the work of the Minsk group has to be energized with fresh ideas to bring new impetus to the process. This will also serve to instigate the necessary political will for the settlement of the conflict, something that has been referred to by the Co-Chairs in their presentations. We are appreciative of the Co-Chairs’ latest efforts to build trust and confidence, and lay the ground for progress in the process. In this vein we are encouraged by the statement of the Co-Chairs issued on 5th November and hope that next week’s Summit meeting would be instrumental in generating a much desired progress for the settlement process.
By way of conclusion let me reiterate our thanks and appreciation to the Co-Chairs and the Personal Representative of the CiO and wish them success in their future endeavors.
