Statement of the Delegation of Turkey in response to the Report by Ambassador John MacGregor, OSCE Project Coordinator in Uzbekistan, 1106th Meeting of the Permanent Council

AGİT DT 23.06.2016
Thank you Mr. Chairperson.

We join the previous speakers in welcoming Ambassador MacGregor to the Permanent Council to present his first report as Project Coordinator in Uzbekistan. We thank you, Mr. MacGregor, for your substantive report.

We note with satisfaction how the PCU has been continuing to assist the Government of Uzbekistan in ensuring security and stability, furthering socio-economic development and improving the protection of the environment in the country. We appreciate the close cooperation between the PCU and Uzbek authorities on project activities geared to assist Uzbekistan in its quest for meeting its OSCE commitments.

We also attach importance to the cooperation of the PCU with the OSCE structures, other regional and international organizations and civil society.

We are pleased with the balance the PCU maintains in its activities with regard to the three dimensions. We also welcome the rate of the implementation of the projects within the unified budget. We support in particular those efforts towards countering transnational security threats, strengthening good governance, anti-money laundering, countering corruption and the financing of terrorism, combatting human trafficking, promoting rule of law and developing civil society.

In conclusion, I would like to thank Ambassador MacGregor and his staff for their work and wish them success in their future endeavors.

Thank you.
