Thank you Mr. Chairperson,

I join the previous speakers in warmly welcoming Ambassador Brush to the Permanent Council for the second time as the Head of the OSCE Mission to Moldova and would like to express my thanks for her comprehensive presentation.

Turkey will continue to support the achievement of a political settlement of the Transdniestrian conflict, which must be based on respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova. It is our sincere belief that once a comprehensive agreement on the Transdniestrian conflict has been reached, the sides and the relevant parties should start looking more appropriate ways of supporting its implementation on the ground.

As we stated earlier, the “5+2” format remains to be the basic negotiating platform mandated to address the interest and concerns of all parties with a view to reaching a political solution to the conflict.

Ambassador Brush’s report clearly registers the encouraging developments in the settlement process. The resumption of railway traffic across the region after a six years of interruption and the agreement on the principles and procedures for the conduct of formal negotiations as well as the agenda put forward for the process are the most recent examples of this positive trend.

It is our sincere hope that the constructive attitude of the parties and the participants will also prevail in the period ahead. We call on all parties concerned to build on the important work done thus far and achieve solid progress on the core issues of the conflict in the near future. As I have emphasized on previous occasions, such headway will not only be instrumental in consolidating peace and stability in the region but also help to display that under the umbrella of this organization progress in resolving conflicts can be achieved.

Furthermore, I would like to express our support to the steady progress made by Moldova not only on its path towards peace and stability but also on democracy and the rule of law. Besides, we welcome the increasing rhythm of contacts between Chisinau and Tiraspol at different levels and commend the mutually agreed intensified meeting schedule between representatives of the sides.

On the other hand, we believe that once a solution to the conflict has been reached, this will constitute a ground for the preservation, renovation and promotion of the buildings having historical and cultural aspects.

Last but certainly not least, the OSCE Mission to Moldova deserves our full support in its endeavors to accomplish its main mandate, namely to facilitate the achievement of a lasting, comprehensive political settlement of the conflict in all its aspects. Within this context, we highly value and support the activities of the Mission in the settlement process. The work of the Mission in other areas such as rule of law and human rights, anti-trafficking and gender and it is efforts to promote the democratic development of the Republic of Moldova are also commendable.

In concluding I would like to express our wishes of continued success to Ambassador Brush and her able team in their valuable endevours.

Thank you.
