STATEMENT BY AMBASSADOR RAUF ENGİN SOYSAL, PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF TURKEY, in response to the Report by the Coordinator of OSCE Economic and Environmental Activities, Dr. H. Yurdakul Yiğitgüden (1137th Meeting of the Permanent Council)
Thank you Mr. Chairperson.
I would like to join theprevious speakers in warmly welcoming Dr. Yurdakul Yiğitgüden, Coordinator ofEconomic and Environmental Activities, back to the Permanent Council and thankhim for his comprehensive and substantive presentation.
His Office’s work plan for 2017 appears well-consonant with the OSCE’scomprehensive approach to security, as well as the priorities of the AustrianChairmanship.
We are pleased with the closecooperation and coordination among the Coordinator’s Office, the Economic andEnvironmental Committee and the Chairmanship. We are looking forward to having constructive discussions in theEconomic and Environmental Committee’s thematic meetings during the remainderof the year.
We appreciate the support ofthe Office to the participating States in fulfilling their commitments through developingprojects, sharing good practices, issuing handbooks and enhancing cooperationand dialogue among various stakeholders. We commend the OCEEA’s cooperation withparticipating States in numerous areas including, but not limited to, economicgood governance, transport and trade facilitation, water management, disasterrisk reduction, energy and environmental good governance.
We also appreciate the OCEEA’sclose cooperation with the OSCE field missions and its efforts for greaterinvolvement of the Partners for Cooperation in economic and environmentalactivities. Moreover, we attach importance to Office’s cooperation andcoordination with partner organizations which complement the efforts of other regionaland international organizations in addressing key economic and environmentalchallenges.
The OCEEA contributessignificantly to strengthening the economic and environmental dimension of theOrganization through its capacity-building trainings, awareness-raisingactivities, targeted technical assistance activities and meetings that allow exchangeof best practices.
We hope that this year’s Forumcycle will allow us to comprehensively discuss and take stock of the topicalissues of the second dimension including connectivity, building economicpartnerships, fostering economic participation, good governance, combattingcorruption, greening the economy and sustainable development and theirrelevance for security and the OSCE’s role in enhancing cooperation in thesefields. We attach importance to the Forum process because it provides a platformfor dialogue and gives the participating states, experts and relevantstakeholders an opportunity to share best practices.
In conclusion, since this isthe last appearance of Dr. Yiğitgüden before the Permanent Council, I wouldlike to thank him for his exemplary and dedicated work in his capacity as theCoordinator of Economic and Environmental Activities. I would like to wish himevery success in his future endeavours. Also, I would like to reiterate ourstaunch support for the second dimension and work of the Office. We lookforward to continuing our fruitful cooperation.
